Holy Week 2024

24 March - Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday marks our entering into Holy Week, the week leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection.

- 10.45 service starts on the Village Green. For Jesus, this week began with a triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Join Rosebud the pony as we re-enact this, starting our 10.45 service on Goudhurst Village Green (at the gate furthest from the church) and walking jubilantly to church together.

Palm crosses will be blessed and distributed at all three morning services.

Monday 25 March - Zoom Compline (Night Prayer)

This short service uses beautiful liturgy to mark the end of the day with God via Zoom - click here to join, 9pm.

Tuesday 26 March - Community Lunch

Join our regular Community Lunch, popping in between 11.30am and 1pm at St Mary’s, with a short talk on the meaning of the hot cross bun at 12 noon.

At the lunch you will receive a delicious bowl of soup with bread and cheese, followed by a hot drink and something sweet. You’ll always get a really warm welcome. Open to everyone and all free.

Tuesday 26 March - Taizé service

Christ Church - 7pm

Join a whole GK Church Taizé service led by Sonja Drew. This beautiful meditative service, in the monastic tradition, will last about 40 minutes.

Wednesday 27 March - Prayers of Lament

Christ Church - 7pm

Prayers of lament with a focus on the sorrow of war.

28 March - Maundy Thursday Bring and Share Supper

St. Mary’s - 6pm

We gather for a meal just as the disciples did on the eve of Jesus' crucifixion. Bring some food to add to the table and share from what has been brought (please no nuts).

The meal ends with an act of repentance and the option of foot washing.

28 March - Holy Communion

St. Mary’s - 7pm

Our Holy Communion service ends by reading Psalm 22 aloud together. We stop mid-sentence when the altar and sanctuary have been stripped of their adornments, to remember the sudden nature of Jesus’ arrest, and leave quietly into the night.

29 March - Good Friday

We mark the day Jesus died for us.

Walk of Witness, 10.30am

We meet at the Pond (the Plain, Goudhurst) with our brothers and sisters from Sacred Heart. We walk as an act of witness and of worship around Goudhurst, stopping with the cross to hear bible readings and to pray. At the end we gather at St Mary’s for drinks and hot cross buns.

There will be two opportunities to spend an hour at the cross alongside others.

12.30-1.30, St Mary’s with short times of led prayer and space for reflection.

2-3pm, Christ Church with anthems and hymns for Good Friday.

30 March - 24/7 prayer

From 7am on Easter Saturday to 7am on Easter morning, sign up here to spend an hour in prayer or contact Becky Addis in the Church Office (becky.addis@gkchurch.org) to register which hour you will be praying.
