Volunteer Communications Officer

 

Job Description


Job Title: Communications Officer (Voluntary)


Purpose

There is a lot going on in and around the church community. We put a high value on communicating who we are and what we do, so that local people know that they are invited to join in to be part of the life of the church.

This role is set up to support the communications work of GK Church by producing high quality materials for use in social and print media and for other forms of publicity and communication.

Terms & conditions

  1. This is a voluntary post with expenses covered by the church,
  2. 2-6 hours per week, to be worked flexibly from home as suits the post holder.
  3. The post holder will work alongside the Vicar and Lay Minister, who are jointly responsible for our communication plan and our comms content.

Key tasks

  1. To produce high quality publicity materials for use on Facebook and Instagram, on the church website and in print format, using the recently redesigned church branding. 
  2. To design these materials using an online design package called Canva which we use for all our design work. In house training will be provided.
  3. To work closely with the Vicar and Lay Minister to design marketing and communications materials, using content provided by them and others as relevant.
  4. Attending, when possible, the monthly communications meeting, to develop the materials according to the regularly updated Church communications plan.

Key skills required

Essential

  1. Skill in the design of marketing, publicity and communications materials.
  2. An aptitude for IT and computer design.
  3. A commitment to the vision and strategy of GK Church.
  4. The ability to work well with people.
  5. The ability to deliver work on time and to a high standard.

Desirable

  1. Experience of design work, including use of online design packages.
  2. Experience of working with a design brief.
  3. Experience of working with a communications plan, including an understanding of how to design specific messages for different audiences.
